Tis the Season...For Yellow Aspens and Pumpkin Beers!

Happy Fall from all of us at LandLocked Ales!  And you know what that means…

Yep, that’s right: the pumpkins are OUT.  And not just in those coffee cups, or in the Spirit Halloweens popping up in your local strip mall.

So, we may not be supplying your favorite Halloween costumes these days, but we ARE in a strip mall, and we DO have a pumpkin ale that has returned the to tap lineup.  We’ve had the Scythe Harvest Pumpkin Ale on tap for a little over two weeks now, but if you haven’t come down to try it, you should definitely consider it.  It’s brewed with real pumpkin and spices to bring a sweet, low bitterness flavor, but the inclusion of Madagascar vanilla beans and lactose turns this usual seasonal favorite into an extraordinary beer that tastes like liquid pumpkin pie.

If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also introduced a fun new mix that might remind you of that PSL you ordered early this morning: Scythe Harvest Pumpkin Ale + Bear Creek Cold Steep = Pumpkin Latte (yes, it’s actually on the menu as the Pumpkin Latte).  If you didn’t guess, the Bear Creek Cold Steep is a coffee blonde made with medium roast coffee from our neighbors Café Olé.

This mix isn’t offered straight from a keg—we actually mix it right in front of you!  In fact, the history of brew-mixing at LandLocked started when some regulars loved our Yazzberry sour, but didn’t want it to be so sour, so they asked for it mixed with the Saison de Changement.  The mix was so good that it ended up on the menu, and we’ve been looking for excellent combinations ever since.

I found my favorite so far when our sales rep Joe came in to drink after getting his first tattoo.  Looking for a way to spice things up a bit (haha, get it?), I decided to try pouring a mix of the Scythe Harvest Pumpkin and our Honor in Revenge barley wine.  The result was a boozy pumpkin-apple pie.  Yes, you read that right; the caramel flavor of the barley wine especially brings out the cinnamon and nutmeg flavors of the pumpkin and adds a deeper spice flavor.  So next time you’re in, ask for Emily’s favorite!

So whatever your thoughts on the whole pumpkin craze are, you don’t want to miss at least a sample of this beer, or a chance to mix it with one of our great pairings!  Our barley wine is getting low, so satisfy your FOMO and get it before it’s gone.

As always, we’re open 7 days a week, so come say “hi” to any one of us, and check in with the blog next week for some insight into our October schedule and beyond!

PS – Lionel is hiding in the back, waiting for the Great Pumpkin to make his appearance.  We are with him!
